| Course description | This course is only available to ECA students on degree programmes belonging to the School of Art.
The course will develop your understanding and ability to gather visual information and use these resources as appropriate in your specialism. Using a wide range of approaches you will initiate a focused personal perspective in relation to your work. Primary and secondary research may include drawing, photography, models, notebooks and research into technical processes.
Aims
1. To engage in specialist visual research in relation to art practice.
2. To develop methods of research that underpin studio practice and lead the initiation of self directed study.
3. To test materials and processes in the development of a personal visual language.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. You will be assessed against three Learning Outcomes and all are equally weighted:
Investigation: Demonstrate a range of research methods and approaches relevant to your study.
2. Reflection: Show evidence of an ability to analyse research.
3. Application: Communicate and apply learning in a synthesised and coherent form. |
Assessment Information
Assessment is formative at end of Semester 1 and summative at end of Semester 2.
You will be formatively evaluated at mid session review point at the end of the first semester and summatively assessed at the end of Semester 2. For this you will require: Evidence of your research process in the form of a blog, notebook, or other format which most adequately suits your working processes.
Accompanying 200 word research statement which outlines the rational of the research process.
