| Course description | The course builds on earlier introductions of postgraduate research. Students attend a preparatory session on dissertation topics and research in Chinese studies in Week 2. Students must attend a minimum of three sessions of the Asian Studies Seminar Series and write comments on these sessions on the course forum on Learn. Students should also prepare statements of their research topics in discussion with allocated supervisors. During the workshop session, all students will present short 20 min introductions to their dissertation research projects. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
| Students will be able to formulate a research problem and will be aware of the appropriate methods for dealing with different modes of cultural and social science research. They will be capable of identifying and articulating research projects and present and discuss them with informed audience. |
Assessment Information
| Students will be asked to formulate a statement of their research topic, including aims and objectives, methods and significance of their research (1000 words). In addition, students should also prepare a summary of recent research relevant to their topic in the form of an annotated bibliography or literature review (2000 words). |
