Course descriptionThis theme will explore formal science education and science teaching pedagogy from the perspective of a science communicator. It will include an introduction to science curricula both national and international, theories of how children learn science, misconceptions in science, working with schools and teachers, managing groups and behaviour, enhancing the school science curriculum and the interaction of formal and informal science learning. The theory will be complemented by the practical module Science Education in Context.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, you will be able to demonstrate:
Confidence to work professionally and effectively with schools.
Knowledge and understanding of science teaching pedagogy and educational research and its role in the enhancement of science communication practice.
A recognition of the interplay between formal and informal science learning and how science communication activities can enhance and enrich formal education.

An essay, which critically examines a range of science communication activities and draws on current literature in science pedagogy for the classroom.
Or
A classroom resource which demonstrates an understanding of science pedagogy and classroom dynamics.
