Course descriptionThe course will explore the diverse possibilities for collaboration with the creative arts in the context of science engagement; for example, storytelling, drama, dance, music and visual art. The module will begin by using story-telling as a gateway for an exploration of the role of narrative and metaphor and will examine the social context of story-telling and its ability to facilitate discussion.
Students will then experience and explore different approaches, processes and perspectives which can be realised through collaborative working between artists and scientists and, in certain contexts, the involvement of audiences in the co-creation of multidisciplinary works.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
An appreciation of and ability to apply different approaches, processes and perspectives to science engagement.
An ability to work collaboratively on a multidisciplinary project.
Consolidation of previous learning with regards to diverse audiences, different learning and engagement styles and diverse motivations for engagement.
Assessment Information
Presentation of a science issue in form of a story together with a proposal for a facilitated discussion of the issue.

OR

Development of a collaborative piece which explores and presents a phenomenon from an innovative perspective.

Presentation of a proposal for a science/arts engagement project.
