Course descriptionThe purpose of this course is to provide students with an in depth coverage of issues relevant to contemporary Retailing. The course will allow distribution issues to be approached from the perspective of the Retailer; providing an opportunity for detailed study of the issues which Retail organisations face, and the context in which subsequent decisions are made.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On completion of the unit successful students will be able to:
- Account for and explain retail change in a European context;
- Appreciate the role of culture in retailing across different countries;
- Discuss the development of the main types of businesses and strategies in retailing;
- Comprehend the operational dynamics of retailing;
- Undertake more specialist study in retailing;
- Have a clearer understanding of retail management in a day-to-day context;
- Understand the opportunities for graduates in retailing.
Assessment Information
The course is assessed by two items of coursework:

1. a course essay (60% of marks) and;
2. a mangement report (40% of marks.
