Course descriptionThis course examines the social, organisational and management issues arising from the application of the Internet and other information and communications technologies (ICTs) within private and public sector businesses and organisations. The course will analyse the significance of the Internet for various organisations, and for changing business practices and relationships. The particular focus will be on how ICTs reconfigure the way in which a business interacts with its customers, partners and suppliers.

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Operations Strategy (BUST10092) OR Information Systems and Organisations (BUST10112) OR The Management of Technology (BUST10034)

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and Understanding:
- understand the social, organisational and management issues surrounding the Internet and other information & communication technologies;
- describe the basic capabilities and limitations of specific computing and communications technologies;
- explain the relationship between improved technological capability, competitive advantage and changed organisational practice.
Cognitive Skills:
- move beyond simple descriptions and develop a more sophisticated awareness of the complexities involved in technical and organisational change;
- demonstrate an ability to critically analyse and present material on emerging topics.
Key skills:
- recognise both the benefits and limitations of resolving organisational problems through the use of information technologies;
- utilise and analyse information from a variety of sources.

Continuous assessment: Group Project (30%); End of Term Essay - 5000 words (70%)
