Course descriptionThe two courses run in parallel. Medieval Welsh Texts 1 begins with an introduction to the basic grammar and syntax of Medieval Welsh, and proceeds to study Medieval Welsh texts with a continuing emphasis on language. Medieval Welsh Texts 2 starts by introducing students to the pronunciation of Medieval Welsh and developing reading skills in Medieval Welsh, and proceeds to study Medieval Welsh texts with a greater emphasis on content and context. During the first term there is co-ordination between the subject-matter studied each week in Medieval Welsh Texts 1 and Medieval Welsh Texts 2.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
This course introduces students to the pronunciation, grammar and syntax of Medieval Welsh, and trains them to read edited Medieval Welsh texts. It provides students with an introduction to the palaeographic, orthographic and textual background of the texts studied.
