Course descriptionThis course will consider models of health promotion and the maintenance of emotional wellbeing. This will encompass public health models and methods of health promotion on an individual and systemic level. Methods of self help and self directed interventions will also be covered.

This course will equip students with knowledge of social, psychological & biological risk and protective factors which inform the promotion of emotional well-being. In addition, there will be an introduction to the wider policy context supporting the promotion of emotional well-being on a national level.

Students will be competent:-

1) In the critical appraisal and application of social and emotional factors in the development of problems in childhood and adolescence

2) To demonstrate a critical understanding of key factors in the development of resilience and the promotion of mental health and wellbeing

3) To use a significant range of self help methods and tools on an individual or group basis
