Course descriptionThe aim of this course is to introduce students to new ideas and concepts of relevance to counselling practice. The precise focus will vary from year to year but we expect to include such themes as the relevance of the French school of psychoanalysis; working with pre-verbal experience; and touch and embodiment in counselling and psychotherapy.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
- critically assess and synthesise research and scholarship on specific themes in therapeutic practices
- identify and conceptualise current debates about therapeutic practices
- understand the relevance of new concepts in psychodynamic and/or person-centred thinking for therapeutic practice
- formulate questions for theory and practice on specific topics of debate in counselling and psychotherapy
