Course descriptionThe course introduces a common framework to address diverse problems of Earth physics based on special cases of the telegraph equation. It describes its geophysical applications to fluid dynamics, and to gravity, magnetic, electrical, electromagnetic and seismic problems.

It initially provides a concrete illustration of the general properties of waves and fields using the analogy of fluid motion.

It extends the teaching of U00545 Physics 2A: Forces, Fields and Potentials to general features of waves and fields, and diffusive propagation in continuous media.

It extends the teaching of electricity and magnetism in Physics 2A and applies them to geophysical problems including microwave remote sesning and current flow in the Earth.
