Course descriptionThe thought of Augustine in the context of the Christian and educational culture of his day and the decline of the Roman Empire in the West. The course will concentrate on four works: the Confessions, the City of God, On Christian Teaching (De Doctrina Christiana) and On the Trinity.

Pre-requisitesVisiting students should have at least 3 Divinity/Religious Studies courses at grade B or above (or be predicted to obtain this). We will only consider University/College level courses.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete the course should be able to:
- demonstrate detailed knowledge of at least three of the Confessions, the City of God, On the Trinity, and On Christian Teaching;
- discuss intelligently their Late Roman historical context;
- successfully contribute formal postings analysing the course texts to the course weblog, and comment intelligently and graciously on the postings of others.
Assessment Information
Students will be assessed by:
end of semester examination (60%),
1 essay and 1 blog OR 3 blogs (30%),
and participation (10%).
