Course descriptionThis course looks in-depth at the policy context of e-learning. Supra-governmental, national and regional policies for e-learning will be examined in terms of their influence on strategies at sectoral and organisational levels. The course will give participants with an interest in the management of change and the strategic implementation and management of e-learning the frameworks they need in order to formulate effective and timely e-learning strategies for their organisations. It will also provide them with an overview of key policy issues within the field of distance and technology-assisted learning.

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: An introduction to digital environments for learning (EDUA11110)

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course participants will have:

developed a critical awareness of the local, sectoral and national policy contexts relevant to their own institutional setting and role

have gained in-depth knowledge of a range of alternative models for e-learning development and implementation

gained the ability to assess and evaluate the impact of the multiple factors affecting the successful implementation of e-learning

gained the knowledge and theoretical frameworks needed in order to formulate an effective e-learning strategy for their own organisation
Assessment Information
1) Report on policy context. Participants will write a short report on government policy and the factors impacting on the strategic development of e-learning within their own national context. Submission at the end of week 5. 1000 words. (40%)

2) An organisational strategy for e-learning. Participants will produce a strategy for e-learning development within their own organisation. Guidance will be provided as to the necessary level of detail and scope of this piece of work. Submission at the end of the course. 3000 words. (60%)
