Course descriptionA course for beginners with no previous knowledge of German, designed to give absolute beginners a basic, working knowledge of spoken and written German. The course is not suitable for students with previous knowledge of German.

All students take all elements of assessment, including the examination.

There is an identical course (Introductory German Language - ELCG07005) which runs in the second semester.

On successful completion of the course students will have the option of taking Intermediate German Language ELCG07004 (20 credits), which follows on from Introductory German Language.

GROUP A: Monday and Wednesday, 14:10-16:00
OR
GROUP B: Monday and Wednesday, 16:10-18:00
OR
GROUP C: Tuesday and Thursday, 11:10-13:00
OR
GROUP D: Tuesday and Thursday, 16:10-18:00

Please note: this course will not appear on students┐ personalised timetable. Group Sign-up sheets will be available on LEARN after the first class meeting. Groups have a limited quota, if a group reaches capacity, you will need to choose another.

The first class meeting will be Monday 16th September at 16:10 in DHT Lecture Theatre C.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will develop basic reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. They will acquire knowledge of basic grammatical structures and a vocabulary of approximately 500 high-frequency words and phrases.
Assessment Information
Coursework 50% (in-class tests and written exercises)
Degree exam 50% (A two-hour written paper)

All students take all elements of assessment, including the examination.
Special Arrangements
This course is open to all students as a credit bearing course, or over and above their full credit load, as a non credit bearing course. DELC students may only take this course if it over and above their full credit load, as a non credit bearing course.
