Course descriptionAn intensive course in spoken and written Swedish for students with no previous knowledge of the language. Introduction to modern Swedish literature and civilisation with selected texts. The course is open to students of all years. A good deal of private study is necessary in order to meet the requirements of the course.

Class Delivery Information The tutorial hour, 1-2pm (Group A) or 2-3pm (Group B) Wednesday, is a proposed time and is subject to confirmation or change in week 1 of teaching. Students can enrol in the course even if this hour clashes with a lecture hour for another course. The other hours, Monday 5-6pm , Tuesday 4-5pm (Group A)/5-6pm (Group B) and Thursday 4-5pm (Group A)/5-6pm (Group B), are fixed and cannot change.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The course aims to develop in students a basic competence in spoken and written Swedish. Students will be exposed to spoken Swedish in various forms, including film, and to elementary texts of various types, studied primarily for their linguistic but also for their cultural content. In addition to its linguistic goals, the course aims to foster transferrable communication skills.
