Course descriptionThis course is introduced at the beginning of the Diploma level programme, when students are planning their work based projects. At this stage the students will be in a position to draw on skills and knowledge acquired in the certificate programme and become 'self directed learners' in their planning and implementation of the work-based project. The course will assist this in three ways. It will help students develop and put into practice project planning theory and practice from the Certificate level. It will introduce the principles, theory and practice of self-directed learning and help students assess their own learning and support needs, how to make most of the elective courses they have chosen in the implementation of their project and identify and establish relevant sources of support. It will also establish the group as a 'learning set' who progress through the implementation of the project together and support and learn from each other. The course will help the group put in place the mechanisms by which they can maintain contact throughout the year after the course is finished.
