| Course description | To develop the practical skills and knowledge in relation to the process of civil litigation in Scotland with particular reference to the sheriff court, covering inter alia the rules of jurisdiction in Scotland, the sheriff court Ordinary Cause Rules, the structure of other civil processes in the sheriff court, and the law relating to pleadings; and to work through case studies replicating typical civil actions, allowing students to undertake oral and written tasks as the actions progress. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course students should be able to:-
&· Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the ways in which civil litigation may be funded
&· Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the different kinds of process competent in the Court of Session, and the operation of Offices of Court
&· Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the concept of specification and relevancy in civil procedure
&· Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of jurisdiction and the procedural sequence of events in an ordinary action
&· Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the jurisdictional requirements of Sheriff Court actions, including appeals to Sheriff-Principal and Court of Session
&· Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the different kinds of actions competent in the Sheriff Court
&· Demonstrate Professional Communication
&· Demonstrate Writing and drafting
