| Course description | This course aims to develop knowledge and understanding of practice management skills required in professional practice, including work and file management, professional conduct, communication with clients and colleagues and the regulatory framework in which solicitors operate. Students will develop skills in interviewing, negotiation and presentation. Students will be required to participate fully in the Free Legal Advice Centre. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course students should be able to:-
- Demonstrate ability to manage personal workload and to manage effectively a number of concurrent client matters
- Identify and understand ethical and professional conduct issues which may arise during traineeship and beyond.
- Identify the fundamental principles and rules which underlie professional conduct and ethics and understand how to apply these principles and rules in practice
- Understand how substantive law interrelates with these rules and principles
- Manage time and risk capably in legal transactions/matters
- Comply with all quality standards, risk management, and other policies and processes
- Understand the regulatory framework and professional standards
- Understand and deal with conflict of interest and confidentiality
- Understand the Client-solicitor relationship
- Develop Communication skills
- Develop interviewing skills
- Listen, give and receive feedback and respond perceptively to others
- Understand the basic dynamics of group work
- Write letters or reports that achieve their purpose and write documents that are structured according to convention and audience requirements.
