Course descriptionA survey of the main historical, technical and cultural developments in Western music from 1980 to the present day, including case studies of significant musical texts.

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Music 2B: Set Works (MUSI08033) OR Music 1D: Introduction to Compositional Techniques (MUSI08056)

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
- Use of primary and secondary texts in musicology.
- Knowledge of the principal musical, intellectual and cultural trends in the period.
- Practical engagement with musical texts in the form of performance, analysis and criticism.
Assessment Information
Two essays c.3,000 words each (40% each). One presentation (20%).
Visiting Student Variant Assessment
Presentation (10%), two coursework submissions (45% each).
