Course descriptionThis course is designed for experienced professionally qualified social work practitioners who work in the Criminal Justice System. The aim of the course is to introduce students to international research on practice which can impact on levels of offending and examine the processes of assessment and intervention.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Learning Objectives

1. To promote and enhance the range and quality of community disposals as alternatives to custody in the statutory, voluntary or independent sectors.

2. To understand and critically develop principles of good practice and service delivery.

3. To evaluate the impact of new service and planning initiatives and to identify gaps in provision.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this module participants should be able to demonstrate in assessment, planning or intervention the principles of effective intervention:

- risk classification

- criminogenic need

- responsivity

- community base

- treatment modality

- programme integrity
Assessment Information
Assessment for this course is a 3000 word written assignment on effective practice with offenders. The assignment is designed to test students knowledge and awareness of principles of effective practice and their critical application to practice intervention.
