| Course description | This course is designed for experienced professionally qualified social workers that work in the criminal justice system. It provides students with the opportunity to conduct a small-scale work based research study employing skills from Module 4. This will form the basis for their dissertation. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Learning Objectives:
1. To be able to identify a suitable topic for theoretical exploration or within which a research project can be developed through all its stages, from the initial identification of a problem to the final report.
2. To collect and categorise information, analyse ideas and concepts, and link them to the research and/or social work theory and practice.
3. To present material in an orderly and organised way.
Learning Outcomes:
This module demands that participants demonstrate their ability to implement a research plan making a significant contribution to the development, delivery and evaluation of policy or practice within criminal justice social work. This will include:
- negotiating with organisations to identify service needs
- planning and designing a research study
- gathering and analysing data using information technology where appropriate
- disseminating findings. |
