Course description | This course will examine two recent loci of debates in meta-ethics: (1) moral testimony and (2) evolutionary debunking arguments. Each issue will be examined in its own right and with an eye to how each constitutes a challenge to moral realism. The guiding questions for the course will be:
1. what, if anything, is problematic about moral testimony?
2. how, if at all, does moral testimony bear on the debates between traditional meta-ethical views?
3. what exactly does evolution serve to debunk? What metaethical significance does it have?
The course is taught by Dr Guy Fletcher.
