Course descriptionSelected readings (in Arabic) and interpretation of texts from Islamic jurisprudence, legal hermeneutics, theology and mysticism.

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: ( Religion 2A: Making Sense of Religion: Phenomenological, Historical and Cultural Approaches to the Study of Religion (REST08008) AND Religion 2B: Religion and Society: Social Scientific Approaches to the Study of Religions (REST08007))

By the end of the course, students will have developed basic compentency to read and interpret the foundational texts of Islamic religious literature.
Assessment Information
Weekly preparation (translation) of assigned texts - 20%;
Participation in class - 20%;
Final exam, based on texts studied in class - 60%.
