Course descriptionThis course provides an multidisciplinary examination of the key issues surrounding, and strategies for achieving, sustainable development. Organised around a series of core sustainability issues (for example, food security, climate change, waste, consumption, energy) the course explores how different perspectives (from sociology, geography, politics, international relations, social anthropology and so on) provide different interpretations and possible courses of action. Students will examine the sustainability of current social and political practices as well as the opportunities for change (on the local to global level).

¿ Advanced understanding of the key sustainable development issues and challenges;
¿ Ability to evaluate various disciplinary perspectives on these topics;
¿ Critical appraisal of the socio-political barriers to and opportunities for sustainable development;
¿ Development of research and analytical and presentation skills, through guided research in preparation for assessment and tutorial presentations
Assessment Information
Non-assessed, but compulsory, class work.
1500 word essay (40% of total mark)
and two hour examination (60% of total mark).
Students must pass the examination to pass the course
