Course descriptionThis course offers the opportunity for sustained critical engagement with Heidegger and Levinas on death and affectivity. It opens up an agora on thinking of death, which is practical, theological, philosophical, and religious.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Completion of this course will show an ability:
(1) To clearly articulate Heidegger¿s existential analysis of Dasein, and ¿Being-towards-death¿.
(2) To situate the dialogue between Levinas and Heidegger, and the issues involved
(3) Argue the relation between existentiality and affectivity.
(4) Demonstrate critical skills.
Assessment Information
4 critical reports on reading 1,000 words 20%;
essay of 3,000 words, elected in consultation with the course manager 80%.
