Course descriptionThis course will provide students with the opportunity to develop a greater understanding of the academic skills required to successfully undertake a post-graduate programme of study. It will be structured to follow the academic writing process (sourcing information, critical review, statistical analysis, writing, presentation) and will support students preparing for assessment and dissertation projects.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
- Reflectively evaluate their own learning and personal planning processes
- Demonstrate research and information skills required to source academic texts in support of their study
- Critically analyse a variety of different types of texts
- Demonstrate the statistical awareness needed to engage critically with data presented by others
- Structure arguments and present work in a scientific manner
- Communicate effectively and succinctly through written and oral presentation
Assessment Information
Formal summative portfolio assessment will constitute 100% of the student¿s grade. The portfolio will be structured to allow the student to gather evidence from course assessment across their programme of study to encourage reflection on learning in addition to recognition and development of study skills.
