SummaryThis course is aimed at candidates for the Architects' Professional Examination Authority in Scotland (APEAS) examination in Professional Studies and Management (ARB/RIBA Part 3). It is an intensive three-day CPD course with no assessed output.

It can also be taken as a refresher course by practitioners. Places are limited and priority given to students who are registered with Edinburgh University Architecture for "Post part 2 Professional studies support".

The course is structured into eight session each with specific themes which also relate to the learning outcomes of the ARB Part 3 syllabus in relation to:
THE CONTEXT FOR PRACTICE
THE MANAGEMENT OF ARCHITECTURE
THE MANAGEMENT OF CONSTRUCTION
PRACTICE MANAGEMENT AND BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

1. To gain an understanding of the client/architect relationship in respect of professionalism, codes of conduct and added value

2. To gain knowledge of the management of architecture in relation to architectural practices;
-architects funding and marketing
-organisational structures
-structures for design management
-structures for financial management
-structures for resource management
-structures for risk management/P.I
-structures for change management
-organising the small practice

3. To gain knowledge and understanding about the role of teams and the various 'team-players' in the construction industry

4. To gain knowledge and understanding of project and construction management including
-Briefing, programme, cost control, procurement strategies
-Design management
-Contract management/administration

5. To become aware of the legislative context for architectural practice.

6. To update knowledge on procurement strategies, contract choice and administration

7. To gain an understanding of contract administration in practice through case study presentations

8. To become aware of the requirements of the APEAS Examination in Professional Practice and Management (Part 3)
