Summary | Indicative course content
This module introduces the histories of the British and Scottish planning systems and the theory that leads to current legislation. The Scottish Planning System is contextualised internationally by looking at examples from other European countries and the USA.
Aims of course
1 To provide a basic understanding of the planning process
2 To provide a general awareness of the issues of planning law, development control and the development process which influence the process of the delivery of a design.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Display knowledge of the legislative tools of the planning process and the role of local government and practitioners in it
- Understand the Scottish Planning system in its historical context and within international planning legislation trends
- Understand and communicate the process of applying for planning permission in a country of his/her choice
