SummaryThe course is divided into four sections which explore different aspects of how the practice of architecture is driven by design values from a variety of cultural and historical sources.

The Evolution of Modern Architectural Practice
An overview of evolution in the architectural profession as a discrete entity, charting the changing economic and societal influences that have moulded its development.

The Modern Movement and the Internationalisation of Style
The birth of the modern movement and the rise of the international style has influenced architects throughout the twentieth century. The module examines key characteristics of the modern in relation to the process of architectural design.

Cultural Influences on Architectural Design Theory.
An exploration of of cultural influences bearing on architectural design from digital technology to discourses on the post modern condition in its widest sense.

Architectural Specificity in an Age of Globalisation.
In an age of globalisation this module seeks to enquire as to how architectural design can relate meaningfully to place. This is reviewed in respect to current perspectives on sustainability, cultural and architectural contexts.
