| Summary | This course is for post-beginners with some knowledge of Japanese or students who have successfully completed Introductory Japanese 2 or Foundation Japanese 2. It is not suitable for absolute beginners.
The examination will consist of a two-hour written paper.

Continuous Assessment: 2 x Class Tests and regular attendance and active participation: 50%
Degree exam (two-hour written paper (content: vocabulary and grammar, reading comprehension and composition, kanji): 50%.
Students must pass both the continuous assessment and the degree exam component to pass the whole course. |

Learning Outcomes
| Students will further develop basic reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, to nearly Common European Framework of Reference for Languages level A1 (the lowest). Some additional basic frequently used kanji are also introduced, following on from those introduced in Introductory Japanese 2.
