Course descriptionIntensive course in kanji writing with modern Japanese language texts.

All students will be given a formative feedback exercise that will be helpful for the assessment for this course and students' general academic development.

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Japanese 1 (ASST08002)
Co-requisites Students MUST also take: Japanese 2A (ASST08006)

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
To equip students with the necessary reading and writing skills to continue their study of Japanese language and culture at a Japanese university by:

-providing practice in written self-expression in Japanese
-encouraging them to develop general reading skills in Japanese
-introducing them to the cultural background to Japan and developing their critical knowledge of Japanese Studies
Assessment Information
2 x 2000 word essays (15% + 15%)

Reflective report on joint class with Japanese 4 (5%)

2 x Topic-based exercise on authentic Japanese materials (10% + 20%)

Mini-dissertation project consisting of question generation, bibliography task, an essay plan, a short presentation and a 3000 word final essay (30%)
