SummaryThis option is designed to be part of the new MBA Family Business pathway. It is a Semester 2b course to be run during one week in April/May. The aim of the course is to increase understanding and knowledge on entrepreneurial processes in family businesses and business families. The ability to regenerate and revitalise a family business has always been important if it is to grow into a substantial business, or continue to thrive into subsequent generations of family ownership. Revitalisation and growth tends to occur through periodic phases of entrepreneurial diversification in which new products, services or markets are introduced to replace former ones which are no longer doing so well. Entrepreneurial factors such as entrepreneurial orientation, the ability to identify and realize new opportunities, the management of resources (especially family resources) are vital for successful regeneration to take place.

The course will pay special attention to strategies and options for achieving entrepreneurial growth, and consolidates this knowledge through constructing a growth plan for an existing family business.
