| Summary | The course aims to provide knowledge of a range of aspects of the cities and smaller communities of the Greek and Roman world and the archaeological evidence for the development of these settlements and their amenities. The cities, towns and villages will include examples from the earliest Greek settlements, Classical and Hellenistic Greece and Asia Minor, Roman Italy and the provinces of the Roman empire (East and West). Sites which were occupied at different periods under different regimes and in different geographical locations will be compared with one another. The course will provide students with an opportunity to carry out research into a specific topic and to develop their oral and presentation skills by giving a seminar presentation. |

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course students should:-
- have a knowledge of a range of different categories of Classical settlement sites in a variety of locations and of different periods;
- have a knowledge of the development of amenities in the settlement sites in the Classical world;
- be able to compare and contrast different sites;
- have developed their skills in researching and presenting a specific topic.
