SummaryStudents will embark on the dissertation in consultation with the programme director. A dissertation supervisor will be allocated, and the dissertation topic must be approved by the dissertation supervisor. Students will write a dissertation on the agreed topic to conform to the academic requirements of the discipline.

The dissertation may consist of an extended exercise in practical translation with commentary, a critical evaluation of an existing translation or translations, an exploration of a topic in translation studies, or any meaningful combination of these.

Alternatively students can choose a translation and commentary option for their dissertations, the approximate word count division is 9,000 words for the translation and 6,000 words for the commentary component.
