SummaryThis courses will address the intersection between translation and writing, creativity in literary translation, and views of translation as enhancement of one's own oeuvre and literary system. The course is assessed by a lecture diary of 1000 words and a translation and commentary essay of 3000 words.

Students will have the opportunity to receive feedback from both lecturers and peers at two different points in the course. The 'Translation and Commentary' workshop in Week 5 and the poster presentations in Week 10 will allow students to benefit from individualized comments and suggestions on practical and theoretical translation issues that they can build on and feed forward into their final assessment.
Course description Core texts, i.e. the first texts to be read, are marked with an asterisk. Reading the other texts for each week is strongly recommended for the students to be able to follow and contribute to the class discussions.

* Understanding of a wide range of creative translational strategies.
* Knowledge of a coherent critical vocabulary which can be used to describe and explain translational phenomena.
* Awareness of the diversity and interconnectedness of possible approaches to literary translation.

* Critical and creative thinking on one's own translation practice, as well as on those of others.
