SummaryThis module aims to help students:
To appreciate the indications for the replacement of missing teeth in the partially dentate patient.
To be able to evaluate the merits of the various types of partial prostheses.
To facilitate the provision of removable chrome-cobalt partial dentures and tooth-supported fixed bridgework.

Additional Information (Assessment) To provide records of:
A set of study casts from a patient who has a missing tooth or teeth mounted on a semi-adjustable articulator. A discussion on the nature of the edentulous space and the indications for treatment or management (300 words).(20%)
A full set of records for a patient for whom a removable chrome-cobalt partial denture has been provided and a brief critical reflection on the care delivered. (300 words)(20%)
A full set of records for a patient for whom a fixed bridge has been made where the abutments have been significantly prepared and a brief critical reflection on the care delivered.(500 words)(30%)
A full set of records for a patient for whom a fixed bridge has been made where the abutments have not been significantly prepared and a brief critical reflection on the care delivered. (500 words) (30%)

Learning Outcomes
Participants should:
Be able to advise a patient with a missing tooth or teeth of the options for treatment.
Be able to provide an appropriate design for a partial denture for the Dental Technician.
Be able to design a fixed prosthesis appropriate for a given clinical situation.
Be able to provide a tooth preparation for bridge retainers consistent with the mechanical and biological demands to be placed on the prosthesis.
Know the considerations in assessing a patient for dental implants and to understand the prosthodontic stages of treatment.
