| Summary | Aims:
. Introduce students to the principles of treatment planning and to the wider management options available for patients suffering from tooth loss.
. Emphasise the impact of physiological and psychological factors in planning.
Objectives:
At the end of this module students should be able to:
. Demonstrate an understanding of the range of treatment options available for patients suffering from tooth loss
. Demonstrate the relative indications for use of the various options
. Demonstrate the ability to assess a patient as suitable for dental implants
. Demonstrate an understanding of treatment options available should implant treatment fail
. Should understand the effect of occlusal factors in the success of implant treatment
. Should understand the effect of psychological factors in planning implant treatment for patients
. Be aware of the outcomes of a variety of treatment options
Topics to be covered are:
1. Alternative strategies for treating toothloss
2. Treatment planning of non-implant cases
a. Edentulous patients
b. Single tooth replacement
c. Partial tooth replacement
3. Occlusion and dental implants
4. Implant loading
5. Same day teeth
6. Conventional vs. implant restorations
7. New developments in prosthodontics
