SummaryThis course will introduce MSc economics students and SGPE PhD students to selected topics in economic history. The specific mix of topics will vary from year to year, but will be drawn from a wide range of eras and topics. In the first year of offering, the topics covered will include pre-industrial revolution economies; the industrial revolution; financial and economic crises of the 20th century, including the Great Depression; and the experience of central planning and its collapse in the USSR and Eastern Europe. The course will be taught by both economists (Becker, Schaffer) and economic historians (Ross, Schenk).
As noted above SGPE PhD students (who have not taken the course already in their MSc year) will be taking this course as part of their ESRC advanced graduate training.

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Macroeconomics 2 (ECNM11022) OR Microeconomics 2 (ECNM11025) OR Quantitative Methods 2 (ECNM11027) OR
