SummaryThis course considers three aspects of education, education and social inequality, understanding life in classrooms and other educational settings and teaching and learning strategies. The course will consider policy, research and practice in education, exploring ways in which individuals and groups experience education in its various forms in Scotland and elsewhere. It also develops students understanding of the range of teaching and learning strategies and issues concerning their deployment. The course will inform students preparation for their work-based placement, or for equivalent activities as appropriate. Students' active use of research on this course will develop an understanding of the links between theoretical perspectives and professional action.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course the students will be able to:

Demonstrate an understanding of issues in educational equality

Show an awareness of recent research and analysis of educational interactions from various perspectives including those of learners

Be able to undertake observational research in various educational settings

Understand recent thinking on the range of teaching and learning strategies and issues concerning ICT and pedagogy

Be able to discuss the concept and research associated with productive pedagogies and their role in promoting educational equality in and through education

Adopt a critical attitude to questions relating to both educational policy and educational practice
