Course descriptionA course for beginners with no previous knowledge of Spanish, designed to give absolute beginners a basic, working knowledge of spoken and written Spanish. The course is not suitable for students with previous knowledge of Spanish.

All students take all elements of assessment including the examination.

There is an identical course (Introductory Spanish Language - ELCH07002) which runs in the second semester.

On successful completion of the course students will have the option of taking Intermediate Spanish Language ELCH07003 (20 credits) in Semester 1 or ELCH07004 (20 credits) in Semester 2, which follow on from Introductory Spanish Language.

Prohibited Combinations Students MUST NOT also be taking Introductory Spanish Language (ELCH07002)
Other requirements No previous knowledge of Spanish is required.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Basic knowledge of Spanish in a wide variety of situations with the aim to develop confidence in language learning, understanding and responding to others in appropriate situations.
Assessment Information
Coursework 50% (Regular written exercises in class and two assessments)
Degree exam 50% (A two-hour written paper)

All students take all elements of assessment, including the examination.
Special Arrangements
This course is open to all students as a credit bearing course, or over and above their full credit load, as a non credit bearing course. DELC students may only take this course if it over and above their full credit load, as a non credit bearing course.
