Summary | This option will examine Spanish American poetry and prose written between independence from Spain and 1900. Texts will be studied in their historical context and the selection comprises epic poetry, the national romance, the short story and the essay. Topics will include the wars of independence, the recovery of the pre-Columbian past, Romanticism, nation building, gender, ethnicity, and race. |
