SummaryThis course is concerned with familiarising the student with a wide variety of registers and many of the complex grammatical structures of Portuguese. One hour per week will be based on written language and one hour per week on spoken language. Teaching will be based on a booklet of materials containing a range of texts. In conjunction with the prepared written materials, students are expected to read and prepare in advance of each class and make us of the Languages and humanities Centre for audio-visual practice.

Prohibited Combinations Other requirements Entry to Spanish Hons required.
Additional Costs Students are expected to purchase an in-house course-book which contains photocopied (with permission) materials and assignments. The course-book is sold at cost price.

Specific Objectives:
To improve your confidence and accuracy of expression in spoken and written Portuguese.
To expand your vocabulary to include a wide range of topics and themes.
To improve your level of accuracy when using complex structures.
To enable you to perform the basic functions of a liason interpreter from and into Portuguese.
To improve your understanding of written Portuguese through access to and close analysis of a range of written materials in a range of registers.
To enhance your understanding of 'media' Portuguese through a range of 'video comprehension' tests both on paper and on computer.
To provide you with a wider awareness of issues currently affecting Portugal.
