SummaryStudents will read one novel or novel in stories per month. On individual blogs they will write up a response to each text and, in autonomous learning groups, discuss the material in the light of their own process. The emphasis on this course is reading as a writer. Students will submit three sample blogs (each circa 500 words) at intervals throughout the year and, at the end of the year, an essay of 4000 words, based on reading, personal reflection and practice.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course students should have increased their awareness of the possibilities of the forms explored and considered their applications in the light of their own practice. They should have gained skill and expertise in synthesising information and articulating their ideas by way of group discussion boards, personal blogs and an end-of-year essay.

Graduate Attributes and Skills Students will learn to identify and summarise key structural, thematic and linguistic components of a literary text, to synthesise a range of responses to the work, and to compose and structure a coherent and relevant argument. These skills are applicable, in part, to a wide range of written material.
