The use of watercolour as an expressive visual medium is often typecast to convey dramatic and floodlit views of the sea, the sky and the land; This course aims to explore and expand the possibilities of working with watercolours and inks as a more contemporary medium. During the course, students will explore and interrogate various materials, techniques and processes based on studio set-ups, location based studies and moving through to developing works from personal imagery and references.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. By the end of the course, through attending classes and engaging in directed and independent study, students should be able to:
    RESEARCH
    Make an informed use of a sketchbook, which demonstrates insight in the use of methods and processes of watercolour as a contemporary medium employing them in a context.
  2. PRACTICE
    Demonstrate a range of watercolour methods and techniques employing a range of drawing approaches, mediums and scales to investigate various subject matters.
  3. PRESENT
    Create an accomplished and related body of resolved work support by sketchbooks and developed studies showing the beginnings of a personal language.
