SummaryCourse for final year students in Honours programmes in Statistics.

Survivor functions and hazard rates. The life table. Actuarial notation. Practical calculation of probabilities using life tables. The Weibull distribution and its uses in reliability theory. The life table as a multiple-state model. Other multiple-state models and the Kolmogorov Forward Equations. Estimation of transition intensities by maximum likelihood. Confidence intervals for transition intensities. Binomial and Poisson models for morality rates. Graduation of life tables. Some demographic terms. Clinical trials. The Kaplan-Meier estimate of the survival function. The log-rank test. Cox proportional hazards techniques. Checking the proportional hazards assumption. Meta-analysis. The use of SPSS in survival analysis.
