SummaryOne of the pinnacles of contemporary mathematical practice is the fundamental interaction between algebra, geometry and topology. This course will highlight diverse mathematical topics in these fields which synthesize results and methods across mathematical disciplines.
Course description The syllabus will vary from year to year. Possible topics include:
- algebraic curves and surfaces
- differential topology
- projective geometry
- topological field theory
- quantum groups
- Lie groups

Learning Outcomes
Students will learn a subject which bridges at least two mathematical disciplines.
They will
1. be able to explain the subject's underlying definitions and essential constructions;
2. be able to provide examples illustrating them;
3. understand frameworks for translating problems between disciplines, and demonstrate this understanding by explaining key steps in establishing the framework;
4. learn to apply key results as a problem-solving tool, and demonstrate this understanding by analysing key examples.
