||Two coursework exercises (35% each) and one 3-hour examination in the May exam diet (30%).

| - To gain a more profound awareness of, and fluency in, dealing with early to mid 19th-century harmony.
- To gain an increasing awareness of musical textures, and a facility in writing these: in particular, string quintet and string ensemble.
- To gain knowledge of different 19th-century song repertoires and to gain fluency in writing piano accompaniments in these styles, in particular the German 'Lied' and the French melodie (especially Faure).
