SummaryThis course highlights translational research taking place in Clinical Neuroscience: 'Mechanisms to Man'. A selection of diseases and techniques that are of key importance to current clinical neuroscientists will be covered. Following a brief introduction to cerebrovascular regulatory mechanism, four topics will be discussed: Imaging, Stroke, Creutzfeld Jacob Disease and affective disorders (depression and schizophrenia). For each topic there will be a selection of lectures and interactive sessions to discuss the role of animal models of disease in elucidating the mechanisms underlying the pathophysiology which can then be translated to the clinic to provide novel drug treatment strategies and improved patient care. There will be optional practical classes on aspects of brain imaging in animals.
