| Summary | This clinical research practice attachment is a core course for the MN in Clinical Research. The placement allows the student to be introduced to, and become familiar with, a clinical research practice environment and the roles of the clinical research team members. The placement will expose students to study design, the recruitment of subjects, secure data collection and storage, research governance, legislation and ethical conduct in all Research & Development processes and procedures. Students will be supported at all times by a practice based mentor and an allocated University based supervisor.
Placements may be in the local Health Boards or may be taken in the locality of a collaborating HEI.
The placement runs from Week 3 ¿ 12 in Semester 1 over two days a week, normally Tuesday and Wednesday totalling 150 hours of practice attachment. The placement experience is supported by regular tutorials. These may be on line, face to face, University or placement based and organised with specific, identified links to the core course Research Methods A and the precepts of good clinical practice (GCP). The students have a set of specific process objectives to guide the learning experience and meet the aims of the course. |

The assignment is in the form of a portfolio to evidence reflective and critical analysis of good clinical practice in research. The assessment of the learning outcomes is in the form of course paper confined to within 4,000-5,000 words (100%). |

By the completion of the research practice attachment, the student will have been enabled to:
