| Summary | This course aims to give the students an introduction to current research activity in exploration geophysics, particularly that done in Edinburgh. The course allows students to link material they have studied on the MSc in Exploration Geophysics to the latest debates in the field. It highlights the unique research expertise in Edinburgh. |

Students will develop an understanding of a number of topics which are currently the focus of research in the field. They will become aware of the developments in exploration geophysics which are likely to take place in the next 10 years.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Multicomponent seismology and anisotropy: Shear-wave splitting, converted wave seismology, fracture detection, anisotropic rock physics
- Time-lapse method: Underlying theory and recent case studies, limitations of the techniques
- Advances in EM technology: Theory, potential and current status
