Summary | The course will examine the British experience of the Second World War through primary source materials to be studied in conjunction with the secondary literature. Having begun with a review of the major sources and archives, the course will explore a number of major areas relating to the experience both of civilians and members of the armed forces. Among the themes examined will be the blitz, war work, and the experiences of soldiers and airmen. |

Learning Outcomes
The aim of the course is to familiarise postgraduates with the major dimensions of the British experience of the war and to introduce them to the range and diversity of the relevant source materials, including contemporary feature and documentary film. The course is intended to enhance the capacity of postgraduates for the critical evaluation of primary sources and their relationship to the historiography of the period.
